Yearly Round Up.....

Things are typically slow the last week of the year, so Ive had a chance to go back and calculate my return on all of my picks that I made this year.  It wasnt too bad, though I admit, I hoped it was more, but in such a sucky market, I'll take it.

So I grossed 151% (this means if I traded $10000 everyday, my gross profit without touching the original trading capital is $15100, a total of $25100) This doesnt include commission or margin interest costs.  Sticking to a set strategy has really helped.  My issue in the coming year will probably be indentifying t he turning point in the economy and switching  to my long strategy, but until then, im sticking with the shorts.

You can check out all of my picks for the past year here.

Great Company Names.....

A few posts ago I commented on LFD's blog about how his wife should start a company cuz she's quite good at carving watermelons for simchos and I mentioned I could come up with good names for her company if she were to make one!  (Im sure lots of you could!)

I appreciate a good business name.  Here are a few I've seen lately:

1)  Knobs and Knockers (they sell pulls and knobs for cabinets and doors in Lahaska, PA)
2)  Lets Get Stoned (granite and stone contractor in Horsham, PA)
3)  Superior Screw Company  (guess what they make........screws, silly!)

Have any companies you've used or seen in the past with cool names?

Hello, My Name is Bob, and Im Calling on Behalf of the Obama Campaign.....

Ok - so Im not voting for Obama, but there is a registered independent voter with liberal leanings living in my house.  As a result, over the past few days, we have received at least 6 phone calls a day and 2 or more knocks on the door a day asking said independent voter to vote for Obama, and telling him where the polling place is in our area as well as offering rides to the polling place to vote........which I think would be amusing to schedule since the polling place is four doors down from our house!

Anyway - though one can admire Obama supporter's zeal.......its freaking annoying!!  I was woken up twice from a shabbos nap!!  And the more annoying thing is that said independent won't TELL them that s/he is planning on voting for Obama anyway so they will leave us alone!!

Have they come for you too??

Oh - BTW - we have heard NOTHING from the McCain campaign.....hmmm.......but if they don't bother your shabbos nap, Id say.....vote for 'em!

School and Baseball......

So baseball fever has hit Philly in the wake of the World Series win.  I couldnt care less about baseball.....or any other sport for that matter - so maybe thats my issue with the following comments and I acknowledge my lack of team spirit, but heres the deal.....

Last night Zev's school sent a mass voicemail to parents (yes, a very fancy system, who's stated purpose was to inform parents when there is an emergency - yea ok) saying that the children should come to school wearing red and white today and that the children would be participating at school in a large rally in honor of the Phillies........

Um, hello  - i have issues here!!  How about some parsha which Zev has yet to learn this year....how about you go back and teach my kid something about sukkos and simchas torah - cuz he learned NUTHIN'!  Im really not happy paying almost $2k/month in tuition to have my kid go to a rally for a baseball team........

Sure - Im all about fun......and I really dont begrudge anyone their sports - to each their own....but seriously!!!

Steven saying Im being unreasonable, maybe I am.

Go Away........Please!

I see everything you hid
So don't you try to right now
All the wrong you did
I might forget you
But not forgive "

Question........

Im a stock market junky........Ive been so as long as I can remember.  I can talk stocks and the market all day long (much to the chagrin of my friends and family).  This market has been pretty extraordinary and I think even the average non-junky has noticed.
So I have a question............how has all of this financial/market crisis effected you personally?

Quote of the Day....

"If you're a trader, 40 percent of the time, you're wrong," said Ari Kiev, a New York city psychiatrist who treats financial sector workers and author of "Mastering Trading Stress."

Couldn't Let This One Go By.....

I don't often comment on things like this, mostly because its too close to home, but I have to say - what the hell is wrong with our people?

This item was in Vos Iz Neias.

Why are there people that want so badly to suppress this information? I really, really don't get it. But then again.......I guess Im not surprised.

Almost makes me want to hand in my "frum" card.....if I even have one to begin with........

As an aside - how come Yeshiva World will report on stupidity like a music hechsher, but not something like this? (at least as of 7:00 pm)

'Nuf Said.....

Had Enough......

File Under: People Are Stupid

When you're pregnant, people say a lot of stupid things to you. Anything from, wow - how'd that happen?? to unwanted advice and horror stories.

Today I had the most stupid comment so far, I think. Someone (a frum person actually) asked me when I was due, my response, of course, was 9/11. Oh! they said, you dont want to give birth on that day!!! I kinda knew what they meant, but out of curiosity, just to see what they would say, i asked why...Well - you know - it was such a bad day! Yes it was, I said, but does that mean that no good things should ever happen on that day? After all, Tisha B'Av was a sad day too, but isn't Moshiach supposed to be born on Tisha B'Av? They stopped talking to me after that.......

Seriously I didnt mean to be a smartass and I guess the knee-jerk reaction to my due date IS to say - Oh that's horrible! - but really....why can't good things come from bad? If not, the terrorists win!

Or in other words.....think before you open your mouth to say something stupid to a hormonal pregnant woman in the homestretch!

Thank you!

The Cutest!

I was watching a rerun of Sarah Palin's acceptance speech yesterday (since
NPR cut off the live feed the other night - stupid liberals).  Anyway - beyond all the blah blah, this was the highlight, IMHO......

So I have This Friend......

my age, I went to school with her.  She's the type of girl who is very supportive of every stupid thing Ive ever done in my life (and continue to do).  Over the years she has gone "off the derech", (as I did at one point) but has told me that she has been going to chabad and has expressed an interest in being frum again, but through all of this talk, she continues to date her non-Jewish boyfriend.  The reason, she says, is that no frum guy wants her right now (she hasn't actually made the commitment to be frum again, so THAT would be why).

Now she tells me that, with her (frum) parents blessing, she will be marrying her non-Jewish boyfriend in the near future.  She wants to have children and a family, etc.  She insists that she will be able to send her children to yeshiva and be frum, even though her husband isnt Jewish, and maybe she can.  However, thought Im very much a "live and let live" kind of person, I strongly disagree, and am having a REALLY hard time feeling excited for her.

On one hand, I guess if she's happy, and her parents dont care, then, why should I?  I suppose the answer lies in the bigger picture.  I strongly feel that to intermarry, and by extension, support it, is to contribute to the downfall of the Jewish people.  (For the record, my SO thinks this is a very extreme view).

So now, what do I do?  So far I have managed to steer wedding talk to a different topic, but its only a matter of time before I will be forced to say something, either outright, or in the form of declining an invitation.

What would you do?

Yes!!! This Is Still a Trading Blog!

Now that Zev is in school, I have a little more time, so Ive decided to tie up a few loose ends - one being to post my trades from mid-July.  Of course, they are posted at www.tr8ergirl.com (go there, buy a subscription!!), but since this is a tr8ergirl blog, I should post here as well.  So here's goes, in a nutshell:

Profit/Loss for July 2008:
AIR.................$0.50
FAST..............$0.50
PII..................$0.92
MTB................$0.53
EBAY (or XLNX)...$0.50
ATR................$0.50 or GILD......$0.89

Because Paying $1900 in Tuition Every Month Isn't Enough.....

Zev starts school tomorrow, and, as usual, I have been procrastinating in getting his school supplies. So I dug out the list today so we can go............HELLO!!!! It's sooooo freakin' long (and SPECIFIC!!) Look!!!

* 24 sharpened pencils (um...isnt that like asking to provide a chalkboard??)
* 2 erasers  (there are 24 erasers on the sharpened pencils, no?)
* 1 pair of pointed Fiskar scissors (so the dollar store ones don't cut as well, I guess)
* 6 UHU glue sticks (white)  (6??? And besides, remember that big pot of Elmer's glue they would give you to share while doing a project, and that smell!  And the token kid that would eat it!  Ha!  Good times!)
* Assorted highlighers  (to highlight our college textbooks??  In 2nd grade??)
* 7 folders with bottom pockets, one of each of the following colors:
red, purple, yellow, white, green, dark blue, student's choice
(Im speechless on this one..)
* 1 pack of colored pencils (12)
* 1 pack thin markers (8)
* 1 pack thick markers (8)
* 1 pack crayons (16)
* 3 black/white composition books
* 2 boxes of tissues (sleeves, kids, sleeves!)
* 12 yarmulkas (how about the one he wears to school with a ton of clips in it?)
* 1 ruler with inches and centimeters
* 1 box quart sized Ziploc storage baggies  (IDK, I totally picture the morah taking home all the boxes of baggies and using them to pack her kids' lunches everyday)
* 1 small pencil sharpener
* 1 rainy day game (stop it!!  Paper, crayons, scissors, all of which I provided...what else do you need on a rainy day??)
* 1 smock
* 7 recent photos (will not be returned)
* 2 small, different photos of your child with a close up of your child's face (will not be returned)
(so when he runs away, the cops will know what he looks like??)

________________________________________

WTF???

I mean really.....what school doesnt provide flipping pencils to the kids? When I was a kid (ugh!) my mother send me to school with maybe a few notebooks and a folder. You got the pencils, crayons, etc at school - you know, those cool big crayons...and markers? Who the hell was allowed to use markers in 2nd grade anyway??

And families with multiple children......I don't know how you do it!! Do public schools have such a list?

Do you really buy your kids all the stuff on the list?

Anyway - off to further empty the bank.....!!!!!

Zev's Brush with "Greatness"

Steven and Zev went to go visit Jordan at school today and went to the local skate shop, where they met Bam Magera. Steven heard he could be a bit of a douche when it comes to meeting fans, but thats not something that would deter Steven, so he asked for a pic. Bam was like, "Yea sure, whatever". Zev didnt really have any idea who he was (I mean, he's not Tony Hawk after all, lol) In fact, Zev probably thought Bam wanted his pic! (My son is a celebrity in his own mind! How's THAT for self esteem!!??) Anyway - here's the pic!

Have you had a recent brush with someone famous?

Oh - and here I am with all the boys....at YitzPeking (greatest kosher Chinese in Philly) for the Going to College (and 2nd Grade) dinner)

Good luck to everyone in the new school year!
:-)

Virtual Nesting

I havent quite gotten to REAL nesting at home yet (Steven is taking care of that!) but I did some cleaning out and adding to the blogroll.

I added a few new blogs, like The Muqata (a classic one, I know, I just havent had a chance to add it) and a new kid on the block, Lakewood Falling Down. so check them out!

I got rid of blogs whose authors havent posted in months (though I kept a two that I *hope* will return). I also got rid of one that doesnt have their own blogroll, nor do they allow comments. I dont know - I always kinda thought that was obnoxious.

This has been a big year for JBloggers leaving cyberspace.......whom do you miss the most?

For The Readers of the Preg Blog.......

I know you've been waiting........

Not one, but TWO more posts.....

Enjoy!
:-)

Thursday, August 21, 2008

Well, Its Been A While.

Yup, it has. Lots of little stressful things have been going on and I have been pretty unmotivated to blog.

The Pregnancy
Things have seemed to straighten themselves out here.  The baby is no longer breech, though to be sure we are still having an ultrasound on Monday.  Other than that, at 37 weeks, the waiting game has begun.  My doula has returned from Israel so I can uncross my legs (was that too crass??)

The Trading
The strategy is continuing to do what its supposed to do, ie, work.  The Tr8erGirl website has the track record and I do have a few subscribers, which is cool.  Looking for more though!!!  So buy a subscription and tell your friends to do the same! :-)

The Kid
Had a great summer at camp!  Even tried overnight for a night and loved it, and my fears that he would just walk away from camp never to been seen again did not materialize (B"H)!!  His surgery went fine as well.  He continues to progress well with his reading and is looking forward to being the best big brother ever.  He left with his dad to go "down the shore" for a few days and his instructions to me were - Mommy - don't have the baby til I get back!

The Other Stuff
Lots of other stuff is going on, some quite sad, but, Ive realized within the past few days, incredibly karmic in nature.  If so, Im happy to have the karmic part behind me and the debt paid.

Anyway - going forward, Im going to try to continue to post at least the trades on a daily basis.  If I dont and your interested, you can alway find them at www.Tr8erGirl.com.

Open for Business! This post will stay at the top for a while...new stuff is below it!)

I am pleased to announce the opening of my new stock picking website!! After a few weeks of thought, and a few more weeks of work (yes, I do work!) I am finally ready to launch it! Check it out:

www.Tr8erGirl.com

(i can't get the link thingy to work, so you"ll have to cut and paste!)

So....
If you or someone you know:
* Is looking to make some extra money.
* Is a stay at home mom who wants to suppliment the family income.
* Wants to learn more about trading without the information overload.
* Has an extra $2500-$5000 (or more) laying around and wants to put it to work.

Then spread the word!

The strategy is simple. The track record is great. The subscription price is cheap! What more do you want???

I will still be posting trades here, but only after the fact (which I typically do anyway) SO, if you want my picks BEFORE the market closes, please consider a subscription! (PLEASE!) I will be limiting subscriptions to 350 people (I'm not looking to move markets here) so hurry!

SAY What???

SAY (my long for the close of Thursday) was listed on briefing.com as coming out with earnings on Monday, before the market opened, however, this did not happen.  The (bad) earnings came out on Friday resulting in the drop in price.  I was not really long this stock, and Im taking it out of the equation, since it didnt ACTUALLY fit the strategy since the earnings didnt come out as originally reported.

Im thinking things turned out this way since the stock is an ADR and an Indian company.  But either way, it was reported on briefing, com incorrectly.

Israeli PM Agrees to Release More "Palestinians" (aka terrorists)

Perhaps I missed something here, but what is Israel getting in return for this gesture??????************************************

PARIS - An Israeli government official says Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has agreed to release an unspecified number of Palestinian prisoners.

The move is intended as an overture to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas as the two sides try to move ahead on peace talks.

Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev said that in a meeting between the two men in Paris on Sunday, Abbas brought up the issue of the thousands of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

Regev says Olmert "agreed in principle" to such a release as a "gesture" to Abbas.

Because so many Palestinian families have members in Israeli jails, the issue is of prime importance for the Palestinian people.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

PARIS (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Sunday that Israel and the Palestinians have never been closer to a peace deal than now.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, standing with Olmert at the French presidential palace, said both sides are "serious and want to achieve peace."

Meanwhile, Olmert also said Sunday that Israel hopes to have direct contacts with Syria soon. The rival neighbors have been holding indirect talks mediated by Turkey.

Olmert and Abbas held talks Sunday with French President Nicolas Sarkozy ahead of a sweeping summit launching the Union for the Mediterranean, bringing together leaders of some 40 nations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

"We have never been as close to a possible (peace) agreement as today," Olmert told reporters.

Repeated rounds of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks since a peace conference in Annapolis, Md., last year have produced little movement.

But the atmosphere was friendly when Olmert and Abbas posed on the steps of the Elysee Palace with Sarkozy in the center, arms linked.

Olmert's domestic troubles, meanwhile, have clouded peace efforts. Law enforcement officials announced the widening of the corruption investigation against olmert. The ongoing investigations threaten his political survival and will make it more difficult at least in the short term to make major steps toward peace.

Palestinian negotiator Saeed Erekat said Sunday that those troubles were not affecting current discussions. He said Israeli and Palestinian officials would review the status of negotiations on the sidelines of the Paris summit, discussig Israel settlement activity, the Gaza border and Palestinian prisoner releases.

Syria's President Bashar Assad said Sunday that talks with Israel could move toward direct contact but suggested that would not happen until there is a new U.S. president in place.

ATTENTION: Readers of my Pregnancy Blog (all 4 of you!)

I've decided to take my pregnancy blog private. Things have been stressful lately with a certain person in my life and I have the need to vent about it freely, and I've decided to do that in that forum. I don't know if this person knows of that blog or reads it, and Id like to keep it that way.

Anyway - if you read the blog and are still interested in doing so, just drop me ur email address and I will put you on the list!

Thanks!

Trades for Monday 7/7/08

Ok people - here's the thing - I havent had a pick since Monday since earnings season is slow. That coupled with last week's holiday, means VERY slow.

There has been excitement going on in the market. The Dow is inching closer to 10,000 (my prediction - but of course, Im no expert) and I do believe we are officially dealing with a bear market......is anyone really shocked?

Anyway - Im backing off from the long strategy a bit though Im still going to post the longs that fit. That doesnt necessarily mean that Im trading it. So having said that, WWW fits the long bill today, HOWEVER, its competitor, NKE did ok with earnings, but had a not so ok outlook, which is why Im staying away.

Things look busier tomorrow.........

Perhaps the proverbial shit has finally hit the fan.........unfortunately I was on the wrong side of it today. My STP kicked in early, which is a good thing at this point. I decided yesterday that I wasnt going to take the chance and wait for earnings. So....

In terms of opening a new position today, Im inclined to sit back and wait, however, there is one long that fits the strategy. I just havent decided if Im going to play it or not.

Now THAT'S A Niche!

I love business...the whole process of taking a concept and creating a money making enterprise fascinates me.

I recently came across this business idea in a magazine and found it to be rather amusing...yet needed, I'm sure! SOMEONE was using their head!!!

Mwahahahaha!!

OK OK

Damn Damn Damn!!

Must be Opposite Day!!!!

I hate Fed rate week.....Im certainly no analyst, but come on people, they arent going to do anything!  Inflation has hit, so to lower interest rates again, I doubt will happen.  I dont see the rationale in raising them either...

GRRR!!

(Edit @ 12:30 pm):  Well then - I suppose I spoke to soon.......Im really waaay better off if I dont watch things!!!  I hereby take back Opposite Day, but still stand by my interest rate comments.  So there!

WAG - not 100% confident in this one....not a lot of history to go on - WAG doesnt often miss its numbers AND its a DOW component.  It does fit the model however.  Im not doing it.

Longs:
DRI - perhaps im reading to much into this, and I should know better than to read the message boards, but it doesnt look good.......I even compared the messages leading up to earnings in other quarters, and this quarter is decidedly more negative.  So im a bit stuck now.  So as a compromise, Im buying, just not so much ....@ 30.66.
